David qualified from RCV in 1988 and has spent a career largely in practice. After working in small animal practice, he obtained the RCV CertSAD and CertSAM and then jointly opened the first English feline-only practice and saw referrals in feline internal medicine and dermatology. During this time, he obtained the North American Diploma in Feline Practice and then a FRCVS for studies in feline osteoarthritis. Afterwards he worked for a clinical laboratory for a few years then returned to practice to be a peripatetic small animal dermatologist throughout the West Midlands. He also offers BAER hearing testing. His main hobby is volunteering for BSAVA.

In 1994 David opened the first feline-only practice in England in partnership with his wife Rosie.
