I’m Alison Mackiewicz, a senior lecturer in psychology at Aberystwyth University, and my research areas of interest are in gender, alcohol/substance use, and mental health. I am also a counsellor and psychotherapist practicing in Ceredigion, and have experience of working with issues including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, eating disorders, sexual abuse, alcohol and drug problems, and relationship difficulties. I practice transactional analysis, which is a technique for understanding how human beings communicate and why they relate to each other in certain ways. As part of the process, we look at how the past may still be impacting the present; for example, what we learnt from our early relationships play out in our adult lives.
